The CPS Course
Since the academic year of 1999, Shanghai High School has been exploring and implementing a "student self-organized activity" moral education model in Grades 10 and 11. The CPS (Creation • Practice • Service) course aims to cultivate students’ innovation, spirit of cooperation, open-mindedness, and organizational skills, thereby promoting an overall improvement in their comprehensive virtues. The goals include enabling students to form a rational understanding of themselves, care for others, develop a sense of social responsibility and moral justice, excel in collaboration, think critically, take delight in practice, and be courageous in innovation.
“Mentorship Program” Educational System
To implement the ‘three-full education’ approach, that features full-personnel, full-process, and full-dimension education. Shanghai High School features its unique characteristics to gradually form a Mentorship Program that spans the three years of high school. This program includes a mentorship program for all students in the first year, the ‘Double I’ (Improving Self-awareness and Interpersonal Intelligence) course in the second year, and career planning (multiple mentors for one student) in the third year. By adopting a multidimensional approach based on guidance materials, the school aims to cultivate gifted students and achieve the fundamental goal of “Cultivation of Virtues and Morality”.
LO Course
The "Leadership and Organization" (LO) moral education course at Shanghai High School is designed according to the goal of cultivating gifted students and implementing the educational philosophy of "Joyful Nurturing of Elites" and "Laying Early Foundation for Pillars of the Nation." As a school-based characteristic moral education subject, the LO course is one of the moral education course series for gifted students at Shanghai High School. It primarily focuses on developing students’ leadership, organizational awareness, qualities and abilities, as well as guiding and nurturing students to establish correct leadership awareness and corresponding leadership visions, which lay the groundwork for the formation of good leadership and organizational behaviors in the future.
National Conditions and Folk Customs
The “China and the World” social study program is a moral education program of Shanghai High School. Shanghai High School requires students to “read thousands of books and travel thousands of miles” to achieve the goal of “unity of knowledge and action”. The core of this social study program “China and the World” is “Read Ten Thousand Books and Travel Ten Thousand Miles”, which aims to guide students to go out of campus as much as possible and to visit the whole country and the world, finding problems and learning to analyze them correctly in unfamiliar environments during field trips, individual practice and experience accumulation. Meanwhile, they shall find problems, learn to correctly analyze these problems and try to seek answers, and even solve problems all to improve their social awareness and sense of social responsibility as the young generation. At the same time, SHS also encourages students to ask societal and governmental questions, to make a contribution to the development of the society when possible, and to really become a thoughtful and socially responsible elite. We hope that this course will enable SHS students to approach society, understand society, think about and analyze the deep-down reasons behind various social phenomena, and help lay the foundation for our future society.
