In March 1997, Shanghai High School and the Ping Pong Club of ECUST (East ChinaUniversity of Science and Technology) joined hands and built up the SHS ping-pong team. Since we have cultivated dozens of students who have entered universities and ping pong teams of all levels, among whom there were about 20 upper-intermediate players including some national level athletes. In various contests citywide, nationwide, or worldwide, we always won awards.

Our school’s ping-pong team has taken part in the World Middle School Table Tennis Game 6 times on behalf of our motherland, and we got approximately 30 gold medals. In April 2006, we successfully held the World Middle School Table Tennis Championship Contest with participants from 18 countries and areas (inaugurated by sub-ministry department chief Yang Guiren).  We were the precedent for middle schools’ independently undertaking large scale World Middle School Table Tennis Championship Contest, and then we received praise from specialized agents, such as ISF and from delegations of all countries.

Since April 2007, Shanghai Table Tennis championship contest (Adolescent) has been named as Shangzhong Cup. In March 2008, Shanghai High School was appointed director unit of Shanghai Middle School Sports Association Ping-pong Committee. At the end of 2007, Shanghai High School cooperated with Xuhui District Sports Bureau and then set up the SHS badminton team with the ping pong and badminton center. In July 2008, the badminton team won one gold, one silver and two bronze medals in the National Middle School Badminton Championship. The combination of sports and teaching in SHS stepped forward a new stage.
