On July 17, 2020, professors from ECUST (East China University of Science and Technology), School of Biotechnology took time out of their busy schedule to carry out an online biology exchange meeting with the high school students from SHSID who are interested in biology research. This meeting gave the attending students great opportunities and honor to communicate directly with the Vice President ofSchool of Biotechnology,ECUST, ProfessorWang Qiliao,Professor Hua Qiang from State Key Laboratory of Bioreactor Engineering, Professor Gao Shuhong, Professor Fan Jianhua, Professor Li Youyuan and Professor Li Pengfei. First, Vice President Wang introduced the research directions and work of these professors in the research group on behalf of the school. Afterwards, the professors explained their current research and its application prospect in details, for instance, biotechnology can efficiently extract many useful ingredients from living things for the benefit of human beings; the research model of bioinformatics can greatly shorten the period of biological research and development; biotechnology can also be applied to new energy development and environmental protection. In addition, bioengineering has a wide range of applications in medicine, such as the use of biotechnology to provide patients with early detection of cancer cells, thus improving the overall cancer cure rate.

Through this online meeting, the students benefited a lot from the professors' advice and insight, and they became more enthusiastic about scientific research. It led the students to seriously consider the possibility of undertaking research projects in the future. We wish SHSID students explore biology with innovative minds and relentless efforts and achieve fruitful results in future research.
