On the afternoon of April 2nd, the teachers in the Economics Department held another online sharing session through Zoom. This week’s sharing was mainly conducted by Ms. Chen Danqing, who shared her experience and practice of three class aspects: warm-up, discussion and interaction, and assessment. Her class would usually warm up by sharing the news. Due to the pandemic, there are various news reports on international economic policies every day, which can be perfectly matched and combined with economic theories taught in class. This teaching method not only lets more students understand the current issues, but also arouses students’ interest and makes the learning environment more interactive. For class discussion and interaction, Ms. Chen shared her experience using Zoom’s white board. When the teacher asks a question in the class, students can immediately write down their ideas on the white board freely and can also see each other’s notes and make comments. The white board helps brainstorming in class and also helps teachers better track their students’ engagement and learning outcomes. In terms of after-class assessment, Ms. Chen thought the effectiveness of Blackboard’s discussion function could be expanded under the context of online teaching. Students can use the online resources to express their opinions on a discussion board, and the rest of the class can see each other’s posts. Therefore, it formed an environment of mutual learning and improving. These kinds of sharing sessions will continuously be held, and it provides a platform for the teachers to communicate with each other and therefore accumulate more experience and ideas for online teaching and learning.
