Recently, some cases were confirmed to be human infections of H7N9 avian influenza. The students in High School Section are now in good condition, but due to the flu situation, teachers and students in the Senior High Section are taking some measures to anti the flu. For example, from this week, teachers will take students' temperatures before they enter Xianmian Building every morning. And each homeroom teacher will ask for the health condition of each students. If there were students who asked for sick leave, the homeroom teacher would know about the detail reasons. The purpose of daily report is to deal with any problems promptly and not to delay any possible condition. At the same time, the homeroom teachers educate students on how to prevent the flu virus on P&B class. Some measures such as washing hands and not touching birds have been introduced to students. Furthermore, some tips about anti-flu were posted at the washroom. With our careful precaution, we believe that all students and teachers can keep healthy under current situation. Here are Avian Influenza (Bird flu) H7N9 Fact Sheet:

1) The main symptoms of H7N9 are: fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Most patients with this virus have also presented with severe pneumonia.

2) If your child presents with flu-like symptoms, have them see a doctor: DO NOT send them to school.

3) H7N9 is different from H1N1 (swine flu) and so far no human to human transmission is known with this virus.

4) With this virus, transmission is still not entirely known; however, basic hygiene is the BEST way to prevent any type of influenza.

5) Wash your hands for at least 30 seconds with SOAP before/after meals, after using the toilet, after playing outside, after coughing/sneezing, etc

6) Cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough with a tissue, flexed elbow, sleeve, or medical mask. Throw tissues away immediately after you use them.

7) Well-cooked food (cooked to 70degrees Celsius—no “pink” parts) is not a mode of transmission for H7N9. However, only eat food that is FULLY cooked. This includes eating only hard cooked eggs (no “runny” parts).

8) Avoid eating food from street vendors.

9) Avoid direct contact with live animals and surfaces that animals have contact with. Avoid live bird or poultry markets, including farms or wet markets.

10) As of now, there is no vaccine for H7N9.
